2027 TERN Science Symposium

On 28 July 2027, Brisbane will once again become the meeting point for Australia’s ecosystem science community as TERN hosts its Biennial Science Symposium under the theme “The Power of Ecosystem Science in a Changing World”. Building on the momentum of the 2023 and 2025 Symposiums, this milestone event arrives at a pivotal moment in the delivery of the TERN 2023 to 2028 Strategic Plan, as new infrastructure, data systems and partnerships reach maturity.

Bringing together researchers, students, Traditional Owners, government and industry from across Australia and the region, the Symposium will showcase how long-term ecosystem data, cutting-edge sensing technologies and collaborative science are shaping the nation’s response to climate change, biodiversity loss and the transition to a net zero future. From flux towers to satellites and from soil microbes to continental-scale models, delegates will explore how TERN’s infrastructure underpins world-leading research and real-world decision-making.

Expect bold ideas, ground-breaking findings and the kind of cross-disciplinary connection that only a symposium of this scale can offer. Whether you are an early career researcher presenting your first results or a seasoned scientist charting the next frontier of ecosystem monitoring, this is the unmissable event for anyone
